When Varley founder Lara Mead was invited to share the latest Spring drops with Florence based fashion e-commerce legends, Luisaviaroma, she jumped at the chance. Not only is she a regular customer and long-term fan of the chic Italian online retailer, but one of her objectives when she started Varley was to create a clothing brand where fashion meets fitness - and a Varley X Luisaviaroma collaboration is the epitome of that. Here she invites us to her light, sun-filled London home to share her style picks and tips, drawing inspiration from Luisaviaroma’s up to the minute edits of all her favourite brands.
Keeping the shoot true to life, Lara’s base layer is often her Varley leggings. Always on the go, whether that’s because she’s running around after her two small children or doing some sort of movement based exercise, she is rarely out of them, loving the way she can throw a jacket or jumper on top and head straight out. “I work out every day,” says Lara, who wakes up most mornings at 5AM so she can squeeze in a quick Pilates class before eating breakfast with her children, “so I’m always wearing our leggings and Vine sweatshirt which I find so easy to style with anything in my wardrobe.” For the shoot, Lara picked the Luna Leggings in Burnt Snake, and paired them with the new Adelaine sweatshirt in Ivory. On top of this she layered on a boyish, baggy denim Balenciaga jacket, perfect for Spring’s frequent climate changes and a stylish addition to the school run. “That jacket is now a firm favourite!” she says.
Another of her favourite designers, Isabel Marant, featured in the shoot with Lara dressing up some high waisted pants with Jacquemus heels, a white leather Marni trunk bag, and some gorgeous Jil Sander gold hoop earrings with pearls. Lara likes to mix casual looks with more directional fashion items, and while she admits to wearing trainers pretty much every day, in her view nothing switches up a look more effortlessly and stylishly than a pair of heels with a tracksuit. “A good pair of Jacquemus heels never fails to add a touch of glamour when it’s needed,” she says.

Not afraid of an accessory or two, for her third look, Lara opted for a gold necklace and canvas bag from Jil Sander to dress up an oversized Jacquemus blazer, worn over her Varley Luna Leggings and Edris Bra in Mono, and a white tee from Balenciaga. The final touch? “I’ll add a pair of black Jacquemus sunglasses when I leave the house to complete my look.”
In her interview with Luisaviaroma, Lara admits making that extra effort to get dressed and put make-up on is hugely uplifting, even though for now it’s mainly just her husband Ben and two children who are there to see. “When you have two young children you owe it to them to stay as positive and motivated as you can.” And like many of us in lockdown, who is she most looking forward to spending time with later this year? “My parents. They got vaccinated this morning!”
